SPRING/SUMMER 2001 CANADIAN DESIGNER COLLECTIONS

Damzels in this Dress
: Spring/Summer 2001

Dolls and Dishes
Many of the participants enjoyed their first experience with spring/summer fashion week including the duo for Damzels in this Dress. Getting started at concerts and trade shows, Rory Lindo and Kelly Freeman have developed a following primarily with cute colorful dresses for the "sweet side of tarty and the tarty side of sweet." Take anyone of the teen flicks such as Urban Legend or She's All That and you would find their clothes on both the girl next door and the knife in your back villains. Separates such as those silk-screened with a vintage Fast Times van are typically priced between 40 - 50$. Dresses such as a deep blue and red naughty number with lacey trim and a high waistband range for 80 - 100$. Their clothes are available in various boutiques on Queen St. West, the Candy Store in East Village - NYC, Japan, and Singapore. The young designers appreciate the Japanese aesthetic because they "really mix it up, have fun, and take chances". This philosophy has allowed them to establish the street credibility they were looking for.
