FASHION DESIGNERS COLLECTIONS FOR FALL/WINTER 2006

Charlie
fall/winter 2006

Designer Caroline Frenette infuses Charlie's fall/winter 2006-07 collection with more than a touch of luxury.

The half-length and full-length tweed coats show off a sultry silhouette-if you're caught in the rain, it had better be in one of these caped numbers. The velvet and suede coat with rounded lapels is another welcome addition to Canada's nippiest season. The chocolate trench is sculpted just enough to give hip definition, well, a hip definition. Voluminous fur shrugs cap off the extravagance.

To an imagined soundtrack of The Flight of the Bumblebee, a raw-cut banana-yellow silk dress sashays under the surprisingly snappy black fur-knit coat. The yellow is dropped for all black ensembles, frilly tops with spaghetti tops the width of linguini, and the cummerbunds, though they're as wide as bed sheets, hold it all together. The feathered chiffon appliqué skirt blends gothic and classic with a twist.

Save for the snug jeans, the pants are all relaxed fit. The gossamer silk blouses in dusty shades of grey and pink, for their lack of pretension, are the must-have separates of the collection.
