Simon Chang
fall/winter 2006
Simon Chang, Canada's
ageless, self-styled fashion maverick, presented a colourful though
overdone collection for fall/winter 2006-07 as part of CIMM's 25th anniversary.
The aristocratic
tapestry, consisting of puffed taffeta and enough embroidery to choke
a horse, feel like a little much. Perfect silhouettes are cluttered
by unnecessary frills, and otherwise snappy jeans are covered with distracting
patches.
The more formal
Simon Chang gets, the more cohesive the look is. The patchwork bell
dress with mohair seams goes swimmingly with the mohair jacket it is
paired with. Jacquard, lace and embroidery conspire to create a one-of-a-kind
jean jacket.
Outerwear may be
what saves this collection. The snow-white button-up jacket is frosty
and minimal, with an immaculate finish also seen on the pea coats.
