Nadya Toto
fall/winter 2006
For fall/winter 2006-07, Nadya Toto trots out examples
of the different the's that have made her a fixture on the Canadian
fashion stage.
The crinkle: get lost in the sleeves of the peau-de-soie
blouse. The design genius of the crinoline layer skirt becomes transparent
when lit from behind.
The slink: midnight blue crepe dress that wouldn't be
right without the gathered hem and wouldn't be a Nadya Toto dreamwork
without the nubby pom-pom tassels. The white stretch sweater creeps
up the neck for magnificent extension.
The ruffle: blue boiled wool coats with furling ruffles
in the front are to die for, or at least, to spend for. The tartan skirt
is layered just chaotically enough to be deviantly cool.
The softer-than-marshmallow-clouds: a delicate purple
knit sweater with peek-a-boo chevron checks. Love the black velvet dress
with a colourful band at the bottom. Black Victorian lace abounds, often
combining opposing directions within the same outfit for provocative
counterpoint.
The illusion: what would a Nadya Toto collection be
without a least one fabric with two-tone sheen? Gold and black do an
optical dance in more than a few dresses. The crimson popcorn embroidery
on black makes you want to reach out and touch.
