Marilyn Brooks - fall/winter 2002

Marilyn Brooks crafts another carefree womenswear collection in “Fall Holiday” fall 2002, a colourful tribute to 60’s abandon. The cuddle trench in variegated colours and hand-woven mohair cape offer the wraparound convenience that Marilyn Brooks is known for while the button front bustier with triangle skirt puts forth a new silhouette. Some younger looks are introduced in the saffron swing dress, A-line skirt and castle tunic.

Marilyn Brooks does fantasy a favour by doing it well. The silk patchwork in orange, goldenrod, jade and purple is whimsically magical. Blazers, jacket blouses, tie on bustiers and swing coats all employ this patchwork with fine Jacquard gold inlay.

One aspect of the collection is questionable. Even (or perhaps especially) within Marilyn Brooks’ targeted demographic, who’s going to dress themselves head-to-toe in op art Futura stripes? Nonetheless, Brooks does well in reminding us that bursting colour should not be exclusive to spring dress habits.
