Soïa & Kyo - fall/winter 2007

Fall/winter 2007 heralds the arrival of a new outerwear darling to the Canadian Fashion Stage, Soïa & Kyo.
Soïa & Kyo is the second brain-child of design duo Elisa Dahan and Eran Elfassy, who are coasting on the momentum of cleaning up at the Fashion Export Awards last fall, and of being picked up by the prestigious Bloomingdales in New York City.
The label has already found a place in the heart of Montreal fashionistas as the cutesy younger sister to Mackage. The cameras love how this upstart does coats, and for good reason. It might have something to do with the adorable tartan plaids, perhaps the gently floral shapes, and definitely the flirtiness.
Red is turning out to be one of the accent colours of the fall/winter 2007 season and S&K does it well in all lengths, leaving it as an overwhelming solid. The best pieces are the ones that prove you don’t have to burden a garment with details to give it that extra kick. The opposite is in play, as we can see with the full-length wool coat, whose button-down collar is a tiny detail that changes the look entirely.
Soïa & Kyo is poised to tackle new markets, ones surely containing fans of the outerwear trendiness that Mackage has triumphed in, but who may be looking for a little sugar on their cereal, some sprinkles on their dessert.
