Paul Hardy - fall/winter 2008

Paul Hardy serves up subtlety spiked with flashy accessories for fall/winter 2008.

One of the toughest things to decipher about a fashion collection is whether it is understated, or if it is simply trying to be nuanced. With this collection, Paul Hardy proves that if the designer is good enough, you won’t be able to tell.

The nutria leggings all but disappear into looks perfectly balanced to baffle. Is there more than meets the eye in the pencil dress, perhaps some brilliant stitching hiding beneath the boiled lamb’s wool shrug? Are the champagne brassieres with dart cups intended to be lingerie or as swinger’s party dinner wear? The answers to these questions, thankfully remain hidden.

For accessories, ladies and gentlefolk, we introduce the fashion bib! These bejewelled curiosities are as gaudy as this Calgarian fashion prodigy will get, evoking a tribal aspect in an otherwise brooding look. The hand muff, with its fur and feathers, is also a pleasant distraction.

Of course, when a fall collection is so light and incandescent as this one, accessories can—for better or for worse—become the main item.
