Simon Chang - fall/winter 2008

Simon Chang brings more than a touch of glitz to the Canadian fall/winter 2008 fashion line-up.

It bears repeating that this Montreal-based designer (who first cut his teeth in fashion in the 70s) dresses the jet-set crowd—quite literally! If you’ve been on an Air Transat or Skyservice flight in the past few years, then you might recognize those nifty duds that the flight attendants are wearing as Chang’s unmistakably glamourous handiwork.

Back here on earth, Chang manages to keep the terrestrial folks well-dressed. While the zebra-print coat might not be for everyone, the business casual combos such as the empire-waist jackets with matching palazzo pants are both smart and accessible. Ostensibly plain pieces like the simple black dress are not without extras such as beaded embroidery and tear-drop cutouts.

Evening wear is where Chang lets loose for fall/winter 2008. The gun-metal grey organza dress is a delightful piece of puff pastry, rivalled only by such delights as the shimmering chiffon gowns in aqua and gold, or the two-tone blue crinkled satin dress with empress collar.

This collection delivers good fashion draped in more duck-feathered boas than we know what to do with.
