Rudsak - fall/winter 2009

Rudsak gives us hooded soldiers dressed to the nines for fall/winter 2009, in a collection of layered leather and wool.

Canadian fashion veteran Evik Asatoorian presents time-honoured military overcoats with fur collars, as well as wool and leather renditions in cherry and merlot that have playful, wide-collared eccentricities—for girls and boys –all part of the Rudsak urban warrior. This season, though, it’s not so simple.

The enigmatic feel of both the menswear and womenswear keeps a lot under wraps. Just when we put our finger on the nylon coat with touches of gathered wool, it takes to the air with Amelia Earhart expediency. This aviator look for women comes in a few variations, including a cement-grey leather jacket worn with a side-split silk skirt over tights, an outfit that succinctly articulates Rudsak’s hide/reveal theme this season. When this same silk-over-leather trick is played out in black, why the result is all the more mischievous. At times, it feels a tad overladen. Does today’s fighting fashionista have time to put on layer upon layer of pants?

The pared down holiday wool winter coats will help you battle through the coldest city winter. Though the cozy wool and parka-type nylon jackets may keep you warmest, the rich leathers are just too irresistible, even on the dreariest of days.
