Morgan De Toi - spring/summer 2003

For spring-summer 2003, Morgan De Toi produces a collection of commercially diverse separates that indicate this collection comes part and parcel with extensive market research. The faded denim jeans have a low-slung waist and flare just enough at the hem. Shimmering, metallic thread makes brief cameos in fantastic pieces such as the cropped teal top with tie-dyed sleeves. Solids are matched with more elaborate paisley prints, giving an elusive appeal to a look that is difficult to nail.

The army-issue skirts, low-slung cargos and capris with wide belt features and huge pockets blatantly take the collection into combat territory. The fact that these military leanings come off as a bit of a novelty does not detract from the collection’s real strengths. The tops are free of any staunchness, and Morgan De Toi dapples in earthtones, lace and neck detailing to achieve a remarkable upper body fluidity.
