Vawk - spring/summer 2010

In a sunny space in the curvaceous wood and white of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Project Runway season 2 winner Sunny Fong opened LG Fashion Week with his 12-look capsule.

Despite the museum setting, Fong clearly had a tropical beach destination in mind with this latest Vawk collection. Tight, fine ruffling mimicking white feathers in a sleeveless blouse, called out to hibiscus perforations in a tan leather skirt. Keeping the colour palette simple and saturated, from ivory and tan to saffron and gold, Fong let all eyes focus on the crisp details of his cinched and simple silhouettes.
While the audience was drawn to alluring cut-outs in brown leather and fuchsia in this tightly edited collection, hearts fell asunder to the layered waves of knife pleats in his two saffron and fuchsia dresses. Also of note were his uses of a regular-sized model and an older model, reminding us that distilled tropical glamour is for every woman.
